These resources from Drugwatch contain information about physical and mental health issues that members of the LGBTQIA+ community face. Intersectionality sometimes comes into play with issues such as these, as explained in the articles. 2022 Pride Day event gets featured in Daily Kos article!

On June 25, 2022, we held our first Tioga County Pride Day, which was a huge success! Over 200 people attended, including one who submitted a recollection of the event to Daily Kos. Read the article below:

2021 National School Climate Survey

These are the most recent results from this survey, which discusses the resources LGBTQIA2+ students have in their schools, if any. It also addresses the intersectionality that is experienced by students of color and disabled students.

2021 Pennsylvania Youth Survey

This survey compiles various data about a population of 6-12th graders in Pennsylvania, including levels of bullying and why that was the case, suicide risk, and chances of doing drugs.

How can you get your school to create a GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance or Gender and Sexuality Alliance) club, a safe environment for students who are diverse in sexual/romantic orientation and gender identity? This ACLU article explains how you can.

2019 National School Climate Survey

This survey was conducted to compare and study the experiences that LGBTQIA+ youth go through in school. It also discusses what resources are available to such students, and if they have access to them.
Intersectionality comes into play as the survey addresses the experiences of LGBTQIA+ students of color.
Currently, an updated survey is in the works and it will include a section addressing disabled students' experiences.

PARENTS' GUIDES TO SUPPORTING LGBTQIA+ FAMILY MEMBERS

The Strong Family Alliance provides support for LGBTQIA+ parents and information on supporting their family members who belong to the community, particularly their children. Check out their resources here:

Questioning Your Bookshelf

Throughout Tioga County, this program will open community and school libraries up to a more diverse range of books. Although it will mostly focus on diversity in gender identity and sexual/romantic orientation, the selection is diverse in other areas as well, such as race and ethnicity.
